Melbourne’s new 5D Clinics centre in Cremorne has reached a major milestone, treating its first patient with the CyberKnife® robotic radiosurgery system — an advanced, non-invasive technology delivering highly precise radiation therapy.
This marks the first use of CyberKnife® on Australia’s east coast, through a collaboration between 5D Clinics and Icon Cancer Centre, expanding access to world-class cancer care in Melbourne.
For David, one of the first to receive treatment, the experience has been transformative.
“Choosing CyberKnife® gave me such relief knowing I didn’t have to face surgery or long hospital stays,” he said. “The care I’ve received from Dr Paul Conway and the 5D team has been incredible.”
Using real-time imaging and artificial intelligence, CyberKnife® automatically tracks and adapts to a patient’s movement during treatment, achieving sub-millimetre accuracy while protecting healthy tissue. Most patients complete treatment in just a few sessions — compared to the many weeks often required with conventional radiotherapy.
Radiation Oncologist Dr Paul Conway said the introduction of CyberKnife® at 5D Clinics is transforming what’s possible for local patients.
“This technology means more people can access advanced, non-invasive cancer treatment close to home,” he said. “We’re proud to make this level of care available to our community.”
