Dr Colin Tang
MBBS, FRANZCR
Radiation Oncology Consultant
Dr Colin Tang is a Radiation Oncologist with subspecialty interests in stereotactic radiation for prostate, lung, liver, pancreas and secondary brain cancer. He received his Radiation Oncology specialist qualification in 2005 after training at Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Queensland. Colin underwent further specialist fellowship at the Odette Cancer Centre, affiliated with the University of Toronto, Canada, specifically focusing on prostate cancer and stereotactic radiotherapy. He was a consultant at Calvary Mater Newcastle in New South Wales from 2008 prior to taking up a consultant position at Perth’s Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital from 2013. Colin was involved in the implementation of the first CyberKnife Machine in Australia in 2014 and is one of the lead consultants providing this service to patients. An active member of several multidisciplinary teams, he is currently an investigator on several randomised trials, and on the Quality Assurance Committees for Trans-Tasman Radiation Oncology Group (TROG) trials, Colin has multiple peer-reviewed publications.

Radiation Oncology consultants are specially trained medical doctors who use ionising radiation for the treatment of cancer (and less often non-malignant diseases). The consultants at 5D are affiliated with both public and private state cancer treatment providers and all have extensive experience in conventional radiation therapy treatments, stereotactic body radiation therapy and stereotactic cranial radiosurgery treatments. At 5D, our consultants use the latest investigative technologies (to identify where to treat), in combination with CyberKnife (which can treat the targeted areas precisely) to ensure the best outcome possible is achieved for the patient. A biography for each of our consultants are included above.

Radiation oncology medical physicists are specialised medical physicists who have a fundamental understanding of how radiation interacts with the human body. Radiation oncology consultants and RTs often consult medical physicists on how to best use equipment to ensure that patients radiation therapy treatments are administered with a high level of accuracy and precision. Medical physicists also ensure that all equipment used as part of the treatment process meet national and international guidelines ensuring patient and operator safety as well as patient treatment quality. At 5D, our medical physicists have extensive expertise with the CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery treatment delivery machine and associated equipment.

Our administrative staff are here to assist you through your treatment journey. On receipt of your referral to our Oncologists, we liaise with referring and specialist doctors to gather a complete set of results and medical correspondence, to best assess your cancer treatment options.
